About Candour

My name is Dawn Hartfield and I am the President of Candour Executive Coaching Inc. I am a Certified Executive Coach with training completed at Royal Roads University in November 2019. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation. In addition, I have completed introductory coaching courses through the Physician Learning Institute (Joule) with the Canadian Medical Association. I am a lifelong learner and continue to work to improve my skills as a coach and participate in ongoing education. I continue to work with a coach as part of my own personal development and journey towards personal excellence.

I am a physician and currently work as an Assistant Registrar with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). I practiced pediatrics in both the community and academic setting, and was promoted to Professor at the University of Alberta in the Faculty Medicine, where I currently remain on part-time faculty. I completed a Master’s in Public Health (Clinical Epidemiology) and have studied healthcare leadership. I have expertise in quality improvement and patient safety and have held progressive senior medical leadership roles in Alberta Health Services prior to my current role at CPSA.

Through my work as a physician leader, I am continually inspired by the teams, patients and families who I work with.  I was fortunate to experience executive coaching, and found it to be life changing. The experience enabled me to recognize blind spots that were holding me back, improve my confidence and communication, and to become a more focused and effective leader. My experience inspired me to become a coach, as I believe coaching is a powerful tool to empower others to achieve their goals.

I motivate myself and others to use creative problem solving, be courageous and achieve impossible goals.
